Lessons at the Zoo
There are some school experiences that go far beyond textbooks and leave a lasting impression on our minds. Being part of the special adoption ceremony of an elephant named Hema at Mahindra Chaudhary Zoological Park (Chhatbir Zoo) was one such unforgettable experience.
The visit was not just an excursion, but a meaningful step towards understanding our responsibility towards the environment and wildlife. As students, we often study about conservation in our classrooms, but witnessing our school adopt Hema made those lessons come alive in the most inspiring way.
The ceremony was conducted with great enthusiasm and dignity. Everyone appreciated the school’s initiative and encouraged young minds like ours to actively participate in conservation efforts.
Our respected Headmaster, Mr Navin Kumar Dixit, also highlighted the importance of experiential learning. He emphasised that such initiatives help shape our values, build empathy, and develop a deeper sense of responsibility towards society and nature.
The most memorable moment was seeing Hema herself. Observing her closely filled us with awe and a sense of connection. It made us realise that animals are not just subjects in our books, but living beings who deserve care, respect, and protection.
Adding to our excitement was the announcement that the school is planning to adopt a tiger in the future. This initiative reflects the school’s continued commitment to promoting environmental awareness and meaningful student engagement.
As we returned, we carried with us not just memories, but a renewed sense of purpose. The day reinforced an important lesson that true education lies not only within classroom walls, but also in the values we practise and the actions we take.
