Learning disabilities is an invisible
disability, which is known to affect 8 to 10 % of the
population. It is a disorder in basic psychological
process involved in understanding or using Language,
spoken or written, that may manifest itself in an
imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write,
spell or use Mathematical calculations. This disability
does not have any physical motor symptoms and thus goes
undetected in many cases. Many teachers and parents are
not aware of this disability, which leads to unnecessary
and unjust repercussions on the child. The child suffers
not only academically but also socially and emotionally.
At YPS Patiala, we acknowledge the
need of these special children and endeavour to provide
inclusive education. The resource centre offers remedial
interventions with different strategies and methods
keeping in mind the individual as the absolute focus.
The resource person co-ordinates and
works with teachers and parents in raising the self
esteem and ability of these children to overcome the
difficulties of learning.
The centre exposes teachers to the
symptoms of learning difficulties and helps to upgrade
their skills to handle these children within the
classrooms.
The centre also gives guidance and
counseling to adolescents, senior students and parents
in regards to their emotional problems and career
options.
Workshops are organized for teachers,
students and parents on different issues. |
